How to Easily Remove Unwanted Browser Toolbars

Whenever I am visiting a non-geek, a normal, non-tech savvy person, I am always amazed by the amount of useless toolbars I find in his/her computer. It’s like they always want to increase their collection, and burden their browsers even more. What happens is this – they download and install a lot of free programs that come with “gifts” or “add-ons”. And these gifts, many times happen to be toolbars that you actually don’t need.
And when you don’t expect it, you’ll end up searching on the web not using good ol’ Google – another company that wants to make a few bucks through advertising. Most people will go directly to Control Panel and uninstall what they have mistakenly downloaded from there. But there are some other methods, as well, such as toolbar removers or solutions found within the browsers.

Uninstall from Control Panel

This is the good old way that many of you probably know already. If you’re using a Windows operating system, you just need to go to Control Panel and the uninstall the naughty toolbars from there. The disadvantage of this method is that you have to manually select which software to uninstall and, sometimes, these toolbars can “hide” under names that won’t become suspicious at first sight.

So, let’s say I want to install the free version of Winamp and I’m not careful during the installation process. Winamp will add a toolbar of its own in my computer. When I realize I don’t need that toolbar, I go to Control Panel >Programs > Uninstall. And from there I pick the toolbar I want to remove.
remove winamp toolbar
But there are toolbars that somehow get past our careful unchecking process. And sometimes, they come with other free software that we don’t really need. For this matter, a dedicated toolbar remover software is much more useful than relying on the defaut solution.
Another advantage of these toolbar removal tools is that they completely wipe the unwanted program from your computer. Also, there are dedicated cleaners for certain browsers, which should assure a 100% “purification”. If you won’t delete these annoying additions, they will make your browsers crash. But before jumping on to them, let’s see what solutions we can find in our own browsers where we can find toolbar removers for every one of them. You can follow the step-by-step instructions written below or the associated screenshots.

TOOLBAR REMOVER FOR FIREFOX

If you have Firefox, then you should be able to get rid of toolbars much easier, if Firefox detects them as add-ons. You need to go to Tools, and then in  the Add-on section you’ll see the toolbars that you want gone. Here’s the complete instruction:
  1. Top of the Firefox window > click on Firefox button > Add-ons
  2. Select the Extensions panel
  3. Select the toolbar you want to disappear
  4. Click “Remove”
  5. Click Restart now if it pops up

TOOLBAR REMOVER FOR INTERNET EXPLORER

Someone might not like Internet Explorer on the basis that it isn’t as secure as other browsers. That probably was true with previous version but currently, IE is secure enough and also comes with the right steps to remove unwanted toolbars:
  1. Click Tools > Manage add-ons.
  2. Highlight Toolbars and Extensions below ‘Add-on Types’.
  3. Under  ‘Show:’ drop-down, make sure All add-ons is selected.
  4. Pick the toolbar you wish to remove, and choose Disable.
  5. Ignore the warning window.

TOOLBAR REMOVER FOR CHROME

The process on the Chrome browser is also very simple. What’s good is that using these methods you can also uninstall unwanted extension that you could’ve forgotten about. Here’s how to do it:
  1. Click the Chrome menu in the browser toolbar
  2. Click Tools
  3. Select Extensions
  4. Click the trash can icon near the extension you want removed
  5. Click ‘Remove’ on the confirmation dialog

Build Your Own Smartphone Using A Raspberry Pi

How would you like to be the owner of a touchscreen smartphone that is unlike any other? – Well you can be, just build your own! That’s what David Hunt did, using his Raspberry Pi and a few other bits that came to a total cost of $158. That is slightly cheaper than your average smartphone but is it as good?
Well clearly it’s not as sophisticated as most handsets but it is one of the only smartphones that comes with an Ethernet jack, RCA Output and a full-sized HDMI port. Included in the build costs is a PiTFT display, 2500mAh lithium-polymer battery, GSM/GPRS radio module and antenna, DC-DC voltage convertor and the Raspberry Pi of course.

PiPhone
“As you can see from the cost of the components, you’d be FAR better off going into your local phone store and picking up a normal smartphone, but hey, where’s the fun in that?” Hunt wrote on his blog. “I got a great kick out of the first phone call I made with this thing. And it won’t stay in one piece for long, I’ll be using those parts for other projects very soon!”
When switched on with the black toggle switch the PiPhone boots into the Raspbian operating system and then displays a numeric keypad. Hunt admits that “you wouldn’t actually use it in the real world”, especially because it gets rather hot and the battery likely only lasts a couple of hours, not to mention the rather bulky, ugly appearance.

But if you fancy giving this a go yourself then keep an eye out on GitHub, as Hunt has promised to release the code for his project if enough requests come in.

Is Facebook Interested in Fitness?

Facebook has its fingers in many pies, if not all of them.  From virtual reality to instant messaging and everything in between, the world’s best known social platform is ever expanding. Well, it seems as though fitness may be on the list of things that Facebook want to accomplish in its career.  The firm has recently acquired the fitness app Moves.  This app helps the user monitor their daily physical activity and also their calorie count on a smartphone.
The app was developed by two-year-old Finnish startup, ProtoGeo.  The company announced on Thursday it had been bought by the social networking behemoth. As usual with Facebook’s acquirements, key members of the team would be moving to the Facebook headquarters in Menlo Park, California.  Interestingly no financial details of the Moves deal were made public.

Download Spybot Search & Destroy 2.3

Spybot - Search & Destroy detects and removes spyware, a relatively new kind of threat not yet covered by common anti-virus applications. Spyware silently tracks your surfing behaviour to create a marketing profile for you that is transmitted without your knowledge to the compilers and sold to advertising companies.
If you see new toolbars in your Internet Explorer that you haven't intentionally installed, if your browser crashes inexplicably, or if your home page has been "hijacked" (or changed without your knowledge), your computer is most probably infected with spyware.
Even if you don't see the symptoms, your computer may be infected, because more and more spyware is emerging. Spybot-S&D is free, so there's no harm giving it a try to see if something has invaded your computer.
Spybot-S&D can also clean usage tracks, an interesting function if you share your computer with other users and don't want them to see what you have been working on. And for professional users, Spybot-S&D allows you to fix some registry inconsistencies and extended reports.

How to Remove Unwanted Objects Or Texts from Images

Even the most experienced photographers can sometimes make mistakes and that perfect shot can be turned instantly in an almost perfect image, thanks to a small leaf winded in front of the camera or two. For this kind of scenarios, and even more, image editing applications will always prove as friends.
While most people opt to use Photoshop, Fireworks and other expensive tools, there are several other services which can easily remove unwanted objects from pictures. In the following lines we will talk about the most relevant and easy to use.

How to Delete Unwanted Elements from Pictures

There are more ways to skin this cat. While most users have pricey tools like Adobe Photoshop to do the work in a fancy, but highly efficient way, there are several others which can do it for less. We’re going to explore the best options at hand, be it free or paid.

USING PHOTOSHOP

Most Photoshop versions come with a pre-built tool which can be used to effectively remove unwanted objects. Depending on mode and most of all, on the hardware configuration of the computer (yes, it seems that more RAM you have, the better results you get), users can delete entire objects out of an image. In this little explanation, we are going to use a Spot Healing Brush tool, which basically paints the designated area with pixels from all around.

Offering excellent results for small objects and able to do the same with bigger tasks, if there’s enough muscle, the Healing brush can be applied as such:
  1. Open Photoshop and open the image you want to modify.
  2. From the left bar, select the Spot Healing Brush Tool, which basically looks like a band-aid (this can also be done by pressing J on the keyboard).
  3. Now, from the Tool Options Bar situated in the upper side of the screen, choose the Content-Aware feature.
  4. Paint over the object that you want to remove from the image, using small brush strokes at a time, to ensure good results.
For smaller imperfections, such as a dimple or a scar, you can use the same Healing Brush tool, but now paired with a Proximity Match or Create Texture option, from the Type menu of the Tool Options bar. The first tool will match-up nearby pixels to recreate the object’s colors, while the second will use what’s found under the scope.
Another option would be to use the Clone Stamp Tool, which takes a sample from a certain photo part and clones the pixels wherever the user needs it. Although in theory this works pretty much as the Spot Healing brush, the tool does not calculate the lightness and color values from the actual surrounding. It’s a sort of a legacy feature, mainly used in older Photoshop versions (under 7).
Using the Clone Stamp can be started from the left-side panel, by clicking on the stamp like icon, just above the eraser. Then, you will have to opt for the Aligned attribute from the Tools menu and then start working. The working principle is rather simple, and you will just have to manually choose an area to replace the deleted object with, by pressing and holding the ALT button.

PHOTOWIPE

photowipe

Also Read How To Block Ads In Android Apps, Games And Browsers

Beginners can also make use of another interesting and free tool, called PhotoWipe. As the name suggests, this software allows people to actually select all the undesired elements within a photo and delete them, with a single-click of a button. Although the process is rather simple, the end-effect is not that classy.
PhotoWipe uses an algorithm to automatically fill the missing space with the same colors as the background. Even though it’s a pretty nice idea, removing an object will still leave some scars on the photo which will surely be detected even by those not so tech-savvy. Still, it’s a nice tool, but don’t expect any miracles.
Now here’s how to use it:
Download PhotoWipe.
  1. Open the software and choose an image from File -> Open.
  2. Choose the objects you want to remove by painting them black. This can be done through a wide range of tools, from the upper menu. Also, to remove any mistakes, use the eraser.
  3. Press the left Preview button to check how the photo will look after editing and if it’s that suits you, save the file.
A word of advice: there’s a high quality option in the left panel, which will dramatically increase results. Unfortunately, using it will highly increase the editing time.

WEBPAINT

lighthouse
Magic can also be done online, without installing any software at all. Webpaint is one of these services and it many aspects it functions just like Photoshop’s Content Aware Fill feature.

All you need to do is navigate to the official website, load the desired image using the left side button and then paint over the object you want removed, using the mouse cursor. To complete the action, press the blue Inpaint button and transformation will begin. In case you’ve covered anything that you weren’t supposed to, use the big X button and undo the action.
I was surprised how well WebPaint actually works, leaving images almost untouched after editing and actually finishing the photo in just a couple of seconds (depending on how big is the surface erased).

PHOTOWIPE

WEBPAINT
