Also Read Why You May Have to Pay More for Your Calls and Mobile Data

Ubisoft announced the minimum and recommended PC specs for Assassin’s Creed Unity, and all we have to say is that Nvidia and AMD are going to make some new business.
You need a 64-bit operating system and a 50GB of hard drive space to install it. The processor and RAM requirements aren’t that bad, but what stands out most are the video card requirements.
A GTX 680 or HD 7970 is the you’ll need to run the game. The only video cards supported at release are the GTX 680 or better; the GTX 700 series; the HD 7970 or better; and the R9 200 series. Laptop versions of these “may work but are not officially supported.”
The full required and recommended specs follow below.
Required Specs:
  • OS: 64-bit Windows 7 SP1, Windows 8/8.1
  • Processor: Intel Core i5-2500K @ 3.3 GHz or AMD FX-8350 @ 4.0 GHz or AMD Phenom II x4 940 @ 3.0 GHz

  • Video Card: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 680 or AMD Radeon HD 7970 (2 GB VRAM)
  • DirectX: Version 11
  • Sound Card: DirectX 9.0c compatible sound card with latest drivers
  • Hard Drive Space: 50 GB available space
Recommended Specs:
  • Processor: Intel Core i7-3770 @ 3.4 GHz or AMD FX-8350 @ 4.0 GHz or better
  • RAM: 8 GB
  • Video Card: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 780 or AMD Radeon R9 290X (3 GB VRAM)

Why You May Have to Pay More for Your Calls and Mobile Data

Industry body COAI has said mobile tariffs may go up soon as telecom operators are expected to pass on to customers the burden of spectrum cost they will incur in the upcoming auction.
The auction of airwaves is likely to be conducted in February next year.

"Definitely there will be an upward pressure on tariffs as the debt burden of telecom players will increase post auctions, they have to pass on the cost to customers," COAI director general Rajan S Mathews told PTI.

He said operators have to pay around Rs. 40,000 crore for the spectrum even if the airwaves would be sold at reserve price in 900MHz and 1800MHz bands.

"From where the money will come? Banks are also unwilling to lend to telecom operators due to high debt burden. Also the telcos have to spend on network infrastructure. So, after paying such huge amount for spectrum only, they have to pass the burden to customers," Mr Mathews said.

Telecom sector regulator Trai had suggested a 10 per cent higher base price for the next round of spectrum auction in the 1800MHz band.

The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (Trai) had recommended a price of Rs. 2,138 crore per MHz for the 1800MHz band and Rs. 3,004 crore per MHz for the premium 900MHz band.

The spectrum auction will be conducted for radiowaves in 900MHz held by existing telecom operators Airtel, Vodafone, Idea Cellular and Reliance Communications through their licences that are expiring in 2015-16.

In the 900MHz band, about 184MHz of spectrum is likely to be auctioned. In 1800MHz, government has proposed to auction 104MHz of spectrum which included spectrum held by licences that are expiring in 2015-16 and unsold airwaves in February auction.

Telecom operators have been cutting back on freebies and discounted minutes to maintain profitability. Analysts say this trend may continue as they have to pay for the fresh spectrum purchases.

After the last auction held in February this year, Vodafone India CEO Marten Pieters had said the telecom industry in India has reached a point where the tariffs need to increase every year to sustain itself.

The February 2014 auctions fetched about Rs. 62,162 crore.

Google Wants Inbox to Be Your Email System for the Next Decade

google_inbox_official.jpg

Two years ago, a team of engineers and designers on Google's Gmail team decided that Gmail wasn't cutting it.
Google's signature email program first hit the Web in 2004. In its earliest days, it was a godsend to everyone who battled against a daily rush of messages.

But email has once again become too onerous. There's too much mail and it performs too many functions in our lives. Email is a place for correspondence, for status alerts from social networks and online stores and airlines, and a file system for transferring and storing important documents. For many people it's also a to-do list and quasi-calendar, the central planner and task manager for your day. And though it is tremendously useful and will never die, email is also, for many people, completely annoying.

So the Gmail team decided to rethink email. "We decided, 'What if we cleared our minds, started fresh, and built something new to help people get back to what mattered to them?'" said Alex Gawley, Gmail's product director, in an interview at Google's headquarters. "What if we did more of the work for them?"

The program that Mr. Gawley and his team have come up with is Inbox, and Google on Wednesday plans to release a version for Android, iOS devices and the web on an invitation-only basis. Inbox isn't an upgrade to Gmail. It's a long-term replacement for it. Though Gmail isn't going anywhere - Inbox's creators stressed that they love Gmail and that Google plans to keep working on it - Inbox is meant to be your email system for the next decade. You'll sign into Inbox with your Gmail account and you'll see all your old messages there, and much of what you do in Inbox will be reflected in Gmail. But Google expects most people to use Inbox or Gmail, not both. In fact, both Mr. Gawley and Jason Cornwell, Gmail's lead designer, say they get their mail through Inbox, not Gmail.

Google's Inbox replaces email's familiar main screen with more thoughtfully designed previews of messages that share the overall aesthetic of a social-networking feed.

The iOS version of Google's new Inbox app, which integrates social and to-do list functionality with email. Credit Inbox also relies on Google's data-mining prowess to improve these highlights. For instance, instead of showing you a message from your airline about your flight, it shows you real-time information about that flight gathered from the web. When you click on the highlight, you can always see the underlying message, but if the software does its job well, you won't have to click on the message.

Finally, Inbox functions as a to-do list. You can create tasks and reminders that appear in your inbox alongside your messages. The tasks are super smart, pulling in relevant data to make them useful. If you type "call my dentist," it might populate the task with your dentist's phone number and only her office hours.

Some of these features aren't completely novel. Inbox requires a series of gestures to navigate and sort your messages, a system that feels similar to that of Mailbox, an email start-up that was bought by Dropbox. (Box names are popular in Silicon Valley.) It also automatically categorizes some of your email in a way that Gmail and Outlook already do.

Overall, though, there's enough that's new in Inbox that I'm eager to give it a long-term whirl. I'll report back if it improves how I deal with my messages, or if it's just another gloss on a eternal tech problem.

Google Nexus 6 Price and Availability Details Confirmed

google_nexus_6_with_lollipop.jpg

The next-generation Nexus smartphone with Android 5.0 Lollipop was unveiled on Wednesday, and while there's no word yet on the Google Nexus 6 price in India, we have heard from Motorola, which is manufacturing the Nexus 6, on availability details in the country. We also have confirmed price and availability information for the Google Nexus 6 in the US.

In a departure from tradition, the Google Nexus 6 is not being sold at a discount compared to other flagship smartphones. A factory unlocked Google Nexus 6 with 32GB storage will cost $649 (approximately Rs. 40,000), the same that an iPhone 6 costs in the US. The 64GB Google Nexus 6 has been priced at $699 (approximately Rs. 43,000) without a contract.
Interestingly, not only will the new Nexus 6 will be available from Google and Motorola, but for the first time a Nexus device will also be sold via carriers in the US like AT&T, Verizon, Sprint, T-Mobile, and US Cellular. T-Mobile said it will be offering the Google Nexus 6 at zero down-payment on a two-year contract.
In terms of availability, Google and Motorola said in their statements that the Nexus 6 will be available for pre-order through the Google Play Store in "late October" and will start shipping in November. T-Mobile was more specific, indicating a November 12 release date, so one can expect availability via Google Play and/ or Motorola to be the same, if not earlier.
Motorola said in its statement that the "Nexus 6 will come to 28 countries (including India) across Europe, Asia-Pacific and North America starting later this year and as we head into Q1."
In case you missed reading about its specifications, the Google Nexus 6, which is being manufactured by Motorola, comes with a 5.96-inch QHD (1440x2560 pixels) display at 493PPI. The smartphone is powered by a 2.7GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 processor alongside 3GB RAM. It comes with 32GB and 64GB internal storage options. The Google Nexus 6 comes with 13-megapixel and 2-megapixel rear and front cameras respectively.
The Google Nexus 6 runs the newly announced Android 5.0 Lollipop, which comes with a fresh look thanks to Material Design and a host of new features. The Nexus 6 sports a massive 3220mAh battery, which adds to its bulk, since the smartphone weighs 184 grams and measures 82.98 x 159.26 x 10.06mm.

Android 5.0 Lollipop: What's New and Updated

google_android_5_0_lollipop_pink_official.jpg

Google previewed 'Android L' at its Google I/O developer event in June, and since then, developers and consumers have awaited the final version, which was finally announced on Wednesday as Android 5.0 Lollipop. The company also launched the platform lead devices for Android 5.0 Lollipop, namely the Nexus 6Nexus 9, and Nexus Player.
Since the Android L preview earlier this year, Google has added several new features to the final release of Android 5.0 Lollipop. While some changes are extensions of the themes introduced in Android L, some are relatively new, and other previously known features have now been detailed by the search giant.
Here are some of the biggest changes that Google brought to its widely-popular mobile and tablet platform with Android 5.0 Lollipop:
Material DesignFirst up is the ambitious Material Design. Remember when Google had introduced Android L saying that this next version will receive a complete visual overhaul for a consistent experience across devices? Well, here it is. Android 5.0 Lollipop features a cleaner, flatter design with a more fluid interface and animations.
google_material_design_3d_animation_gif_official.gif
We saw the revamped navigation and status bar in the Android L preview, and Google has stuck to the design but now the status bar can be coloured or kept transparent (depending on the app) and features refreshed status icons. The 'Quick settings' menu has also been revamped, and includes new controls like flashlight, hotspot, cast screen controls and more. Also new is the toggle for location services. The recent apps menu or task switcher now appears like a stack of cards instead of a list of screenshots of recently open apps.
Google explains the new Material Design for Android 5.0 Lollipop as "A bold, colorful, and responsive UI design for consistent, intuitive experiences across all your devices. Responsive, natural motion, realistic lighting and shadows, and familiar visual elements make it easier to navigate your device. Vivid new colors, typography, and edge-to-edge imagery help to focus your attention."
Improved Notifications/ Do Not Disturb
Android 5.0 Lollipop's lock screen displays richer notifications, and users can view and respond to messages directly from the lock screen. In fact, Google has further gone ahead with notifications and included rich floating descriptive notifications on top of your activity. Users will be able to view or dismiss any notifications without moving away from an activity.
Essentially, Google has provided better overall control for Notifications.

google_android_lollipop_notifications_status_bar_official.jpg
Users will be able to control notifications triggered by their apps, and choose to hide sensitive content, apart from prioritising or turning off an app's notifications completely. Android 5.0 Lollipop users can also turn on 'Priority mode' via the device's volume button and allow notifications from only certain people or apps to be shown - users can schedule when Priority mode turns on as well. The feature also works as a Do Not Disturb mode as seen in Apple's iOS, and allows users to also selectively silence notifications and calls on the Android device.
Importantly, Google has also now downgraded the priority that incoming phone calls are given, and users can now choose to answer the call, cancel it, or just continue to do what they were doing without waiting for the call to end.
Kill Switch and Improved SecurityAndroid 5.0 Lollipop will come with an opt-in kill switch dubbed 'Factory Reset Protection', which will allow users to wipe out the device's data on will. If a user activates this feature, they will be required to enter their Google login to factory reset the device and it will only work when the phone passcode is enabled. Google also says that new devices come with encryption automatically turned on to help protect data on lost or stolen devices. Google had announced the feature last month, after Apple revealed its own version. Not much is known about this feature as yet, but we will soon find out the details.

Other security options in Android Lollipop includes SELinux enforcing for all applications claimed for even better protection against vulnerabilities and malware. Users will also get an Android Smart Lock feature to secure their device by pairing it with a trusted device like a wearable or even their car, says Google.
New Messenger App
nexus_5_android_lollipop.jpg
There is a new Messenger app that will be shipping with the Nexus 6 as part of Android 5.0 Lollipop It is said to be a more simplified of Hangouts, and is not a replacement for it, says a Google spokesperson, "Messenger and Hangouts offer users choice, each have their own benefits. Hangouts work great for cross platform (web, iOS, Android) and cross medium communications (video, voice, messaging, SMS). Messenger will be specially designed to be a quick and easy way to send and receive SMS and MMS messages on Android; more to come (Nexus 6 will come with both apps)."
Device SharingGoogle has finally brought device sharing features that will help users share their Android 5.0 Lollipop device with members of their family and friends without worrying about access to sensitive content. Android 5.0 Lollipop features a guest user mode with custom options for access, as well as screen pinning that lets users fix in place the screen that's displayed without allowing guests to go further. Interestingly, it has also introduced a new feature in Lollipop that lets users log in to another Android phone to access synced messages and content in case they forget their phone at home.
Battery SaverGoogle has also added a new battery saver feature to Android 5.0 Lollipop, claiming to extend device battery life by up to 90 minutes. Android 5.0 Lollipop will also display the estimated time left to fully charge the device when plugged in, as well as the estimated time left on the device before the user needs to charge again.
Quick Device Set UpGoogle has introduced new ways for users to set up their devices with Android 5.0 Lollipop. Users can instantly set up their new Android phone or tablet by simply tapping it on their old device - though this requires NFC support. All apps from Google Play are also carried over on the new device, as long as the same Google account is being used.
Other new features in Android 5.0 Lollipop include the new ART Android runtime for improved application performance and responsiveness; support for 64-bit devices and SoCs; native 64-bit apps; improved hardware keyboard accessory support (including support for multilingual, emoji input, search key, and improved app and system key chords), support for 15 new languages (including Bengali, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Tamil and Telugu); improved accessibility features (such as text contrast boost, colour inversion, and enhanced colour differentiation); improved audio, video, and camera capabilities, and improved Internet connectivity everywhere and with more powerful Bluetooth low energy capabilities.

Tk Technews (via Phone Arena) has posted an image that purportedly shows the alleged Nexus 6 or Nexus X pictured beside the iPhone 6 Plus. The alleged Nexus 6 seems to feature a bigger screen, and is slightly wider and taller than the iPhone 6 Plus (which sports a 5.5-inch display) in side by side comparison.

In addition to this, prolific phone tipster @evleaks is back after a period of relative quiet with a new render (seen above) of the alleged Motorola Shamu, rumoured to be the codename of the alleged Nexus 6 - named after a killer whale and implying a large phone. The smartphone seen in the leaked render looks like an elongated version of the Moto X (Gen 2) and the front panel sports a Moto X-like design.
On the other hand, AT&T ahead of any announcement from Google has listed (via Android Police) the 'Motorola Nexus 6' (as seen on the site). Notably, the alleged smartphone is listed with a price tag of $49.99 on contract. However, the image seen in the listing is clearly of the LG G Vista and the alleged Motorola Nexus 6 phone is seen in the sidebar of the LG G3 Vigor page.
Reports for a while have been tipping that Google's new Nexus smartphone and tablet alongside Android L OS will be released by mid-October (October 15-16), and a new report by Forbes goes in-line with earlier claims.
Jay McGregor in the Forbes report suggests that the Nexus 9 (previously codenamed HTC Volantis) will be launched on Wednesday and will be the first device to run Android L out-of-the-box.
McGregor's sources also claimed that alongside the Nexus 9, the Motorola-built Nexus 6 aka Nexus X smartphone will also be unveiled via a blog post. He further suggested that the Nexus 9 will go on pre-order starting October 17, and will be available for sale only beginning November 3. The purported pricing for the Nexus 9 tablet is - $399 (Rs. 24,500 approximately) for the 16GB model, which along with the dates is in-line with an earlier report, and $499 (Rs. 30,600 approximately) for 32GB LTE variant.
Reportedly both the Nexus 9 variants will come with expandable storage support, a feature that has been missing in Nexus devices since the first offering. The report also tips purported specifications of the Nexus 9, which are in-line with previous leaks, to include an 8.9-inch (2048x1440 pixels) display; 480 grams weight; 64-bit dual-core processor (Nvidia Kepler GPU) and an 8-megapixel rear camera alongside 3-megapixel front-facing camera. The report suggests that HTC has opted for a 'brushed aluminium' frame instead of an all metal frame for keeping the cost down.
Other expected features from the alleged Nexus 9 include Boomsound, a feature which has been seen on HTC's One smartphone family, and dual front-facing speakers.
The report notes, "An additional origami magnetic stand-case will be available tomorrow [Wednesday] which can apparently be bent into any shape - and can fold in all directions - to prop the tablet up."
