Free is the name of the game, it seems. Believe it or not, you can get Microsoft Office for FREE on your iPhone; and if you are an Android user, you get the same benefit! Microsoft Office users were certainly happy to hear thatthe software suite for Mac is being updated this year, but this more recent announcement is a great way to end the week, isn’t it?
It’s not that we didn’t have Microsoft Office for iOS and Android. However, it used to be that you needed to subscribe to Office 365 in order to use Office to create and edit documents. While Office 365 subscriptions start at $7 per month (not too bad if you look at it at a per month perspective), it’s still $7 you can use for something else more fun.
With this recent development, though, anyone who has a Microsoft account can use Office on their iPhone and/or Android phone.
Going beyond the excitement that FREE brings, it is important to go back to reality. Microsoft Office for smartphones can be pretty useful, but do not expect an experience remotely close to the experience you have on your desktop or laptop. For example, using Word, you can create documents and edit them. When it comes to editing though, there are limitations and you can only really do basic font formatting and add comments.
For Excel, you’re even more limited with only five mathematical functions. And when it comes to PowerPoint, you cannot create new presentations, although you have the ability to open PPT files and edit slide text.

While the limitations cannot be ignored, the fact that you will be able to do minor edits on your documents, spreadsheets, and presentations on the go without having to subscribe to Office 365 makes up for everything. At least that’s what I think.
